On a cold winter night back in January
2001, several women packed themselves into a small room at Stanford
Hospital in Palo Alto, California. Very
few of us knew each other but we came with at least one thing in
common
we all had breast
cancer. We were there for many reasons
but mainly to not be alone on a new journey we were all being forced
to embark on. Through
the course of several weeks, we shared our fears, our concerns,
our anger, our frustration, our clinical experiences, our stories,
our scars, our tears and yes, our laughter as well.
Finding comfort and friendship and
an understanding that only other cancer survivors can share, we
decided to keep the group alive and continue to meet on a regular
basis.
Yes, we are Breast
Cancer Survivors. But we are in the Best
Company, and have Brazen Conversations.
We are Bodacious Chicks, Brilliantly
Creative, Borderline Crazy,
Bald Cronies (but not for long!)
and Buoyant Conquerors. We are the B.C.
Group!
We would like to thank the two
women who initially brought this group together for
without their dedication, we might all still be looking for each
other... Pat Fobair and
Susan Weisberg (Department of Radiation
Oncology, Social Services at Stanford Hospital). We thank you!
